Court lighting comes to Bury Knowle
Introducing the innovative new court lighting system from TweenerAt Courtside, a key desire of ours is to ensure that the design of our physical spaces maximises the enjoyment of our participants and respects the surroundings.
We always planned to add court lighting to enable after dark play in the evenings at our new Hub in Bury Knowle park. But we needed to do it in a way that respects the environment and our neighbours. That means only using the lights when absolutely necessary and minimising the light spill both up into the surrounding trees and over the fences into our neighbours' gardens.
We think we've smashed it with Tweener's court lighting system. The streamlined low profile light strips are mounted along the top of the fence along the sides of the court and are barely noticeable during the day. Each lighting unit has an integrated hood to limit direct upward light spill, and each of the hundreds of individual lights has a lens that directs the light at the courts while limiting the direct spill into the surrounding park. 'Normal' floodlights are usually mounted on pillars 6, 8, or 10m above the ground and can have a significant overspill.
The Efficient LED lights consume, at maximum brightness just 2.4kW of power per court, compared to upwards of 1kW per head of pillar lights (at least 4kW per court depending on configuration and specification). Our booking system integration ensures that the lights only come on when the courts are in use, and only when its dark.
This helps to keep our impact and carbon footprint low, and our costs down which allows us to continue to provide affordable and accessible playing opportunities to the local community.
We think this is a nice balance of; good for the players, good for the environment, and good for the neighbours.
